IN THIS POST:

TL;DR: Here's what you should anticipate for fillers and Botox (neuromodulators, as a whole) before and after treatment. Some of the post-treatment things you should know include avoiding excessive sun exposure, limiting alcohol consumption and avoiding vigorous physical activity for the first 24 hours. Others are listed within the post.

In cosmetic procedures, having accurate information is crucial for making well-informed decisions. This guarantees optimal results while minimizing potential risks.

That’s why it’s important to know the differences between these procedures – neuromodulators and dermal fillers, in this example.

At DLK on Avenue, situated in Toronto, we believe in the best patient care available.

In this blog post, we’ll discuss the benefits of combining neuromodulators and dermal fillers for a cohesive finished look, and what to expect before and after these procedures.

Dermal Fillers and Neuromodulators: The Combination

(Differences between neuromodulators and fillers)

Neuromodulators and dermal fillers team up to refresh your face, dealing with different aspects of aging.

Specific wrinkles on your face need tailored solutions, and that's where neuromodulators and dermal fillers come in.

Dynamic wrinkles show up from constant facial expressions like smiling (causing crow’s feet) and frowning (creating what we call 11’s). To fix this, we inject neurotoxin into the active muscles causing the lines. This temporarily immobilizes nerve signals, relaxing the muscles and reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles.

Static wrinkles, on the other hand, happen due to volume loss in the face. Dermal fillers are used to restore volume in these areas and smooth out static lines.

Besides this cohesive treatment, there are other benefits:

  • Fewer Treatment Sessions and Minimal Downtime: Even though these treatments already have minimal downtime, combining Neuromodulators and Dermal Fillers means you can skip long breaks from your everyday life. No extended recovery periods and no disruptions to your busy schedule.
  • Proactive Aging: Neuromodulators and Dermal Fillers are increasingly seen as preventive treatments. Regularly using injectables over time can proactively fend off future lines and wrinkles, halting the facial aging process.
  • Balanced and Natural Results: In the end, this duo creates a more balanced and harmonious look by syncing both effects.

Before & During Treatment

We start your consultation by assessing your goals and concerns. This allows our experts to create a customized plan for you.

Treatment time itself can vary based on the area and if numbing is involved, however, the procedure time is anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour.

Neuromodulators generally don’t require numbing but deepening on the area of Dermal Filler, a topical anesthetic, can be used to minimize pain. This can vary based on pain tolerance as well.

Know you can always give us a call should you have any questions or concerns. We always recommend a 2-week follow-up post-injectables.

After Treatment

Following treatment with injectables, adhering to post-treatment guidelines is important. These include:

  • Avoid touching or applying pressure to the treated areas for a few hours
  • Refrain from intense exercise or vigorous physical activity for 24 hours
  • Avoid bending over or laying on your back for 4 – 6 hours (this is mostly specific to neuromodulators)
  • Limit alcohol consumption for the first 24 hours after the injections to minimize potential bruising or swelling
  • Avoid blood-thinning medication for 24 hours (48 hours, if you’re susceptible to bruising)
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure for 24 hours

Although generally safe, these treatments are associated with specific side effects, including:

  • Redness and swelling at the injection site
  • Tenderness (pain upon touching the site)
  • Allergic or hypersensitivity reaction

At DLK, we prioritize safety, ensuring injectables are administered exclusively by qualified, board-certified injectors. Regardless, promptly notify your treatment provider of any side effects.
