Dr. Lisa Kellett, a Toronto dermatologist at DLK on Avenue and a member of the CDA Sun Awareness Working Group, stressed that skin cancer can be avoided through adherence to sun protection measures.

“Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer that humans will get in their lifetime,” said Dr. Kellett. “The good news is that it is largely preventable using sun protection measures. Furthermore, it is easily detectable using simple measures that can be taught and easily implemented by patients at home, namely skin self examination.”

The Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) is actively informing Canadians about the importance of self skin examination and the steps that can be taken to protect against UV exposure.

The objective of the CDA campaign in 2022 is to share important sun awareness messages and resources for Canadians, including steps to conduct a self-examination and preventive actions that can be taken, across social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, as well as the CDA website, noted Dr. Kellett.
